News relating to Camp Mather throughout the year.
Below is a message sent by San Francisco Rec and Park General Manger Phil Ginsburg to Mather supporters. We've been receiving quite a few inquiries on the water situation, so we wanted to pass this on.
Dear Camp Mather Supporter, As you are likely aware, on July 10, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the State Water Resource Control Board had issued a series of directives to cease water diversion, including one for Canyon Ranch Creek, the source of drinking water for Camp Mather. Based on a court ruling the following day, the State later issued a partial rescission and clarification of these notices. As such, there is no additional action needed at this time and Camp Mather will continue to remain open. All of our summer camp reservations and activities will proceed as scheduled. Camp Mather's water is a precious resource, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind all of Camp Mather's friends, staff and guests to conserve water whenever and wherever possible. We need everyone’s help to stretch our water supplies and to help our creeks and rivers. We can all do our part by reducing showering times or frequency, not allowing faucets to run and by promptly reporting any possible leaks to camp staff. We will continue to monitor the situation closely with our City’s water agency, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, and will keep everyone updated if the situation changes. Thank you. Sincerely, Phil
