News relating to Camp Mather throughout the year.
Dear Friends of Camp Mather – A couple of weeks ago, at the November 2 meeting of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission’s Capital Committee, the subject of the Community Opportunity Fund Program – Round 5 – finally made it to the agenda, “for discussion and possible action”! Project Manager, Jacob (Jake) Gilchrist, supported by others of Capital and Planning Divisions, presented a summary of the program and the seven applications recommended by a selection committee for the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighbor Parks Bond Community Opportunity Fund Project. Among these seven was the Camp Mather Multi-Use Sports Court proposal.
At the end of this agenda item, the Capital Committee, comprising Chair Commissioner Tom Harrison with Commissioners Mark Buell and Allan Low, moved to the consent calendar of the full Commission the recommendation for action to authorize Recreation and Park staff to proceed with design development for the projects. In short… YIPPEE!!! There is much work to be done before the first basketball bounces off the new court’s floor or the first birdie floats over the new court’s badminton net but this first important hurdle has been passed! So FoCM wishes to take a moment here to thank all those who worked so hard on the grant application and those who supported this endeavor by writing letters and signing a petition, as explicitly recognized in the November 2nd presentation: John Avalos, Board of Supervisors, District 11 Scott Wiener, Board of Supervisors, District 8 Ronnishia Johnson, 3rd Street Youth Center and Clinic Denis Mosgofian, PROSAC (D5) May Wong, Excelsior District Improvement Association Ann Clark, Friends of Camp Mather Joe Litehiser, Resident Amy Meyer, former San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission Caroline Grant, Resident Daniel Sears, Resident Kirk Fetzer, Resident Lucy Pastrana, Resident Teri Low, Resident Erik Nelson, Resident Robin Hubinsky, Resident Steve Balestrieri, Resident Hayley Thompson, Resident Mike Nemetz, Resident Midge Lingvai, Resident Numerous other community supporters listed on a petition Thanks to ALL, and stay tuned for future developments.
