FoCM Naturalists

The FoCM Naturalist Program began with Mishwa Lee and Matt Cory, who nearly covered the entire summer of 2007. Since then we have been lucky enough to have some stellar naturalists participate in the program, including:
  • Tom Graham, CCSF Journalism Intructor known as The Walking Man, spends almost the entire summer at camp, and whose grandfather helped to build the dam at Hetch-Hetchy
  • Neil Fahy, who was first a naturalist at Camp Mather in the 1940's when he was 14, and all the men were away fighting in WWII. His knowledge is encyclopedic, and he has a life-long passion for Mather.
  • Mishwa Lee, educator and devout out-doors woman; she is especially loved for her All Species Parade and finding ways to include all age groups in her activities.
  • Lisa DiGrolamo, CCSF educator in the biology department, and a past FoCM Director and coordinator of the Naturalist Program

There are many more great Naturalists who support Camp Mather, and they change each week. Each one brings their own special focus and interests, so there is always something new to learn.

Volunteer Leaders

The FoCM Volunteer Leader Program began in 2004 with hardy campers who did fundraising at camp, selling t-shirts, raffle tickets, and muslin totes. From this humble beginning, FoCM has gone on to raise over a half million dollars.

VL's sell raffle tickets in front of the dining hall Wednesday - Friday, and run the Raffle at the Friday Dance. VL's are the touchstone for campers who want to know the latest about camp.

VL's receive a guaranteed reservation, but must pay for their cabin or tentsite and all their meals. There is one VL for each week of the season.

VL's apply before November for the upcoming summer and are scheduled to best cover for the entire summer. If you are interested in participating, have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice week ready.

To find out more about the Volunteer Leader Program, get in touch with Phil Enis or email FoCM.
