BECOMING A VOLUNTEER LEADER for SUMMER 2013
Dear Members of Friends of Camp Mather,
We know how much you love Camp Mather and want to support what FoCM does.
One of our major commitments is the Volunteer Leader program at Camp Mather during the summer. Please let us know if you are interested for Summer 2013.
Leaders are chosen for each camp week, usually a schedule of ten weeks beginning in June and ending in August. The schedule is determined each year by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Volunteer Leaders for 2013 will be selected by the FoCM board by December 3, 2012, recognizing, as much as possible, the wishes and availability of potential volunteer leaders. Those selected provide a valuable service to FoCM and Camp Mather and make a commitment to be at camp for the entire week and fulfill all the assigned volunteer leader tasks.
Please know that being a volunteer leader is not easy, but it is always rewarding. Leaders receive a guaranteed reservation (cabin or tent site) of their choice for their week. This is not a free week. All leaders must follow the Rec and Park application and registration guidelines and pay all fees for meals for themselves and their guests and the cabin or tent site of their choice.
Volunteer hours at camp range from two to three hours each day and up to five hours a day during the final days of the camp week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. In addition, there is a session for Volunteer Leader training and a session for Volunteer post camp follow-up before and after the camp season. Each session is usually scheduled for four hours in San Francisco on a week night. Volunteer Leaders are finger printed and must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is highly preferable that leaders have experience as a Volunteer Leader and a camper at Camp Mather as well as a history of volunteer work. Friends of Camp Mather is a 501(c)3 organization.
All volunteers are required to:
Attend FoCM board meetings to understand FoCM goals and to provide
information and assistance to help campers enjoy their time at camp.
Attend special Volunteer training before and after the camp season that includes:
speaking at the campfires, talent shows and the Friday night dance;
selling raffle tickets at the dinner line for fund raising;
accepting and recording donations;
displaying and selling FoCM merchandise for adults and children, such as
t-shirts, hats and visors;
keeping merchandise sales and inventory records;
keeping records of raffle sales and donations;
preparing bank deposits and other money records, as required;
coordinating closely with the Manager of the FoCM Camp Mather Store;
setting up and coordinating the Friday night raffle drawing;
keeping a record of all raffle winners;
speaking personally to the first prize winner each week about the guaranteed reservation for the next year;
preparing end of the week reports, as necessary;
coordinating and assisting the Manager of Camp Mather, as appropriate.
Coordinate with the Camp Mather San Francisco Recreation and Park Manager and the Manager of the FoCM Camp Mather Store and have your picture posted at Camp Mather.
VOLUNTEER LEADER SUMMER APPLICATION 2013

Board meeting are usually held the first Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7:00 pm at the Parkside Police Station Community Room. Check calendar for dates, times and changes.
